Third time's a charm for Essential Quality's two-year-old son Essentially Fast as a switch to dirt proved to be the winning recipe in a maiden event at Belmont at The Big A on October 17th. He becomes the 11th winner for his freshman sire.
Essentially Fast broke evenly in the compact field of five with jockey Katie Davis content to keep her juvenile charge relaxed just off the pace in the three path for the first half mile. As the field approached the final turn, Essentially Fast made his move, gradually running down the front runner in deep stretch, and began pulling away towards the wire.
Essentially Fast was bred by Dr. Jerry Bilinski in New York. He is a half-brother to Stakes-placed Kansas Kis, and is out of a half-sister to G3 winner/G1-placed Utopian and Stakes-placed Indy Trouble and Temper Temper.
In addition to Essentially Fast, dual Eclipse Champion Essential Quality is also represented Stakes winners Essential Time, winner of the Clever Trevor Stakes, and Chopsticks, winner of the Ellis Park Debutante. Other son Confessional made his debut a winning one, capturing a maiden special weight at Keeneland on October 16 while posting an impressive 85 Beyer, with Aye Eye taking an eye-catching maiden special weight at Saratoga in August. Essential Quality is also the sire of additional maiden special winners My World, S S Quality, El Barrio, Viva Vienne, and Essential Wild Cat.
Essential Quality will stand the 2026 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $25,000, stands and nurses.
