Thieves Guild steals the show in Caress Stakes

Medaglia d'Oro leads all sires at Saratoga with eight winners

Medaglia d'Oro is certainly soaking up the Spa this year, currently leading all sires by winners at Saratoga, adding an eighth winner to the list August 2 as Thieves Guild blew them away in the Caress Stakes.

In the five-and-one-half-furlong turf sprint Thieves Guild traveled along the outside, tracking in second. Midstretch the four-year-old filly showed a burst of energy, flying to take over the lead and posting a commanding win just shy of the track record. Hard Spun's multiple Stakes-winning daughter Free As A Bird completed the exacta.

On the up, Thieves Guild is now two-for-two in 2015, after an impressive three-length Allowance win at Belmont in June. Out of multiple Stakes winner and Graded-placed mare Gilded Gold, Thieves Gold was bred by B. Flay Thoroughbreds, Barry Weisbord, Robert & Joan Masterson.

Thieves Guild becomes 17th US Stakes winner on the year for Medaglia d'Oro who leads all North American sires by Stakes winners in 2015. The sire's top runners this year include G1 winner Mshawish, recent G2 Lake George Stakes winner at Saratoga Mrs McDougal, and G2 winner Gold Medal Dancer. Among the sire's top Southern Hemisphere runners this year is brilliant G1 winner Vancouver. The sire is best known for his Horse Of The Year daughter Rachel Alexandra.
