Stormy Novel powers home in Miss Woodford Stakes

Bernardini filly best at Monmouth

Three-year-old filly Stormy Novel added another Stakes winner to her sire Bernardini's record July 20 with a strong win in the Miss Woodford Stakes at Monmouth Park. Placed in the Miss Preakness Stakes back in May, it was the first Black type win for the filly.

In the six-furlong race Stormy Novel raced on the far outside in fifth. Rounding the turn the filly went three-wide where she took control of the lead and couldn't be caught in the stretch for a commanding win. Discreetly Elusive, by Discreet Cat, finished third.

Bred by Fred W. Hertrich III & John D. Fielding, Stormy Novel was a $300,000 yearling purchase at Keeneland's September sale. Stormy Novel is a full-sister to Stakes winner and Graded-placed filly Bridgehampton and is out of the Forestry mare Teton National, a half-sister to the dam of Graded Stakes winner and G1-placed Called To Serve. The family goes back to G1 winner Behrens.

Bernardini is a powerful sire of top quality runners around the globe. His eight career G1 winners include dual G1 winner To Honor and Serve, as well as two Travers winners in Stay Thirsty and Alpha, who followed in their sire's footsteps. In 2014 Bernardini has added two Australian G1 winners, Go Indy Go and Boban.

Bernardini's stud fee is $100,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
