Second straight Stakes win for daughter of Street Sense

Politeness surges in the straight for big G3 win at Caulfield

The margin might have been narrow, but Street Sense mare Politeness unleashed another withering finish in her second Stakes win from two starts this preparation on October 10.

Politeness came from last in the G3 Cape Grim Beef Steaks (1200m) at Caulfield, overhauling Lonhro mare Wawail in the last few strides before the winning post, to keep her unbeaten record intact this campaign

Trainer Robert Smerdon and jockey Mark Zahra wouldn’t have had any nervous moments, with the five-year-old mare always appearing to be cruising and have the race within her grasp.

Politeness also won the G3 How Now Stakes over the same track and distance on September 19, her ability to let down with a fast late sectional sprint evident in both victories.

Politeness takes her record to eight wins and four minor placings from 26 starts.

Commands mare Berengaria, the dam of Politeness, has also produced a three-year-old filly by Denman and a yearling colt by Street Cry.

Street Sense has sired 38 Stakes winners, of whom five have been successful at G1 level including Sweet Reason, a three-time winner at the elite level, plus Hallowed Crown and Wedding Toast who are both multiple G1 winners.
