Penwith earns first Stakes victory in G2 Royal Delta at Gulfstream Park

Daughter of Bernardini draws off in the stretch to win easily

Godolphin Racing’s Penwith signaled that she will be a force to be reckoned with in the older filly and mare division in 2016 with a sharp three-length score in the G2 Royal Delta Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Rated just off the pace through the early stages of the race, Penwith joined the leader on the far turn before taking command and pulling away through the stretch for the easy victory. It was the first Graded Stakes win for the 5-year-old daughter of Bernardini, who has captured both of her starts this year.

Bred in Kentucky by Darley, Penwith is out of multiple Graded Stakes winner Composure, who notched victories in the G1 Santa Anita Oaks, G1 Las Virgenes, and G2 Oak Leaf Stakes. Penwith is a half-sister to the multiple Graded Stakes-placed Centring and Graded Stakes-placed Tranquil Manner.

Bernardini had an incredible year in 2015 with four US G1 winners including G1 Champagne victor Greenpointcrusader and G1 Spinaway heroine Rachel’s Valentina.  Bernardini is also the sire of back-to-back G1 Travers winners Stay Thirsty and Alpha, as well as multiple G1 winner To Honor and Serve.

He stands at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $100,000, stands and nurses.
