Navy Blue coasts as 12th winner for Midshipman

Two-year-old colt an easy winner at Belmont

Two-year-old Midshipman colt Navy Blue couldn't have broken his maiden any easier October 24 in a Maiden Special Weight at Belmont Park. In the one-mile race the colt was racing comfortably in third, two lengths off the pace. At the top of the stretch Navy Blue passed along the outside to take over the lead and coasted in the stretch to a three-and-one-half-length win.

Out of the Devil His Due mare Just Gabi, Navy Blue is a half-brother to Stakes winner Saltamontes. The colt was bred by Darley & McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, LLC.

Navy Blue represents the 12th winner for freshman sire Midshipman, after son All Star Bub broke his maiden on debut at Santa Anita just a day prior. Other promising runners for the sire include Happy TIcket Stakes winner Naval Command, nine-length debut winner Batten Down Belle, Woodbine winner Ensign Eli, and Stakes-placed runner Purple Heaven. A winner of the G1 Del Mar Futurity and G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Midshipman was honored as Eclipse Champion Two-Year-Old.
