Midshipman's Ensign Eli sets sail at Woodbine

Midshipman is already off to a terrific start at stud, and his two-year-old son Ensign Eli continued this success September 14 with a strong Maiden Special Weight win at Woodbine. As the ninth winner for his first-year sire, Ensign Eli sprinted straight to the lead in the six-and-one-half-furlong event. Leading throughout, the colt opened up in the stretch and was unstoppable as he coasted to victory.

Bred by R. Harvey & A. Wortzman, the colt is out Alkmaar who is a half-sister to Canadian Champion and Stakes winner and G1-placed Hollinger.

Other winners by Midshipman thus far include promising Listed Happy Ticket Stakes winner Naval Command and nine-length debut winner Batten Down Belle. The sire has also been represented by Stakes-placed filly Purple Heaven. In addition to his G1 Del Mar Futurity win, Eclipse Champion Two-Year-Old Midshipman remains the fastest-ever winner of the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
