Lucky Lurie better than lucky

First winner for first-crop sire Girolamo

Darley’s first-crop sire Girolamo was represented by his first winner on June 25th when two-year-old colt Lucky Lurie broke his maiden first time out in a five-furlong maiden special weight at Belmont.

Lucky Lurie broke well from the gate and tracked closely in second throughout the first four furlongs. The pair hit the top of the lane almost even and then dueled down the stretch until the Girolamo colt pulled away nearing the wire.

Bred in New York by Anthony Grey, Lucky Lurie is out of the Freud mare Holy Freud, a full sister to multiple Stakes winner Uncle T Seven. Holy Freud is also a half-sister to multiple Stakes winner/G2-placed Wishful Tomcat and other Stakes winners Lucky Lewis and Zetterholm.

By A.P. Indy out of the prolific Mr. Prospector mare Get Lucky, Girolamo is a full brother to the dams of G1 winners Super Saver, Bluegrass Cat, and Imagining.  He retired with a record of five wins from eleven starts, including wins in the G1 Vosburgh and G2 Jerome, and a close third in the G1 Cigar Mile.
