Louisville First rallies to take six furlong maiden race at Belmont Park

Filly becomes tenth winner for freshman sire Girolamo

Louisville First rallied from mid-pack to capture a six-furlong maiden special weight contest at Belmont Park Oct. 2.

Originally carded for the turf, the race was moved to the main track due to inclement weather. The surface switch didn’t make any difference for the daughter of Girolamo, who took command in the final sixteenth to win easily.

It was just the third career start for Louisville First, who was bred in New York by Mr. and Mrs. James G. Bell. The filly is trained by George Weaver for Rap Racing.

Louisville First is out of Move Clickly, a winning daughter of champion Cherokee Run who has also produced Stakes Winner Fioretti, by Bernardini. Louisville First hails from the immediate family of Manahan McLir, winner of the G2 American Derby.

Girolamo, a son of A.P Indy and a full brother to the dams of G1 winners Super Saver, Bluegrass Cat, and Imagining, won the G1 Vosburgh and the G2 Jerome Handicap.  He has had ten first-crop winners so far this year, including She’s All Ready, winner of the Seeking the Ante Stakes at Saratoga. Girolamo is also the sire of stakes-placed Belmont maiden winner Lucky Lurie, and Saratoga debut winners, Pagan and Backwood Bay.
