Long Hot Summer burns up the track at Del Mar

Street Boss filly stays perfect in Generous Portion Stakes

When hip number 90 entered the sales ring at this year's May sale of two-year-olds at Barretts, more than a few in the arena thought they'd like to take home the beautiful juvenile filly by Street Boss, but it was Tony Fanticola and Joe Scardino that put in the winning bid at $260,000, the top price of any offering in the sale. And as it turns out, they made a very good decision.

Now named Long Hot Summer, the filly won at first asking earlier this month at Del Mar on her debut, and then on August 27th, she made it two-for-two in the Generous Portion Stakes, coming from second last to first in the field of 10 for an impressive win.

Bred by Harris Farms and Don Valpredo in California, Long Hot Summer is out of the multiple Stakes winner Hotlantic, by Stormy Atlantic. Ironically, Long Hot Summer's third dam is a half to Generous Portion for whom the race was named. Generous Portion, born in 1968, was a multiple Stakes winner whose wins included the Del Mar Debutante in 1970.

Street Boss, a G1-winning son of Street Cry and one of North America's top third-year sires, is the sire of 2014 Arkansas Derby winner Danza from his second crop to race. In addition, he has also been represented by 2013 G1 King's Bishop winner Capo Bastone from his initial crop, among others.
