Libreta wires the field to break maiden at Belmont Park

Filly becomes ninth winner for freshman sire Girolamo

Making just her second career start, promising two-year-old filly Libreta led from the start to win a six-and-a-half furlong maiden special weight contest at Belmont Park Sept. 27.

The Darley homebred, owned by Godolphin Stable, improved off a third-place finish at Saratoga in her debut last month. Breaking alertly under Luis Saez, Libreta went to the front at the start and never looked back, cruising home to win by over six lengths under a hand ride.

Libreta is out of the Ghostzapper mare, Enrichment, a full sister to multiple G1 winner, Better Lucky. She is also a half-sister to Graded Stakes winner, Sahara Heat.

Girolamo, a son of A.P Indy and a full brother to the dams of G1 winners Super Saver, Bluegrass Cat, and Imagining, won the G1 Vosburgh and the G2 Jerome Handicap.  He has had nine first-crop winners so far this year, including She’s All Ready, winner of the Seeking the Ante Stakes at Saratoga. Girolamo is also the sire of stakes-placed Belmont maiden winner Lucky Lurie, and Saratoga debut winners, Pagan and Backwood Bay.
