La Appassionata charges to victory in My Trusty Cat Stakes

Daughter of Bernardini remains undefeated in Stakes debut

La Appassionata swept to the lead on the far turn and never looked back as she rolled to an impressive seven-length victory in the $100,000 My Trusty Cat Stakes at Delta Downs.

It was the Stakes debut for the daughter of Bernardini, who now has won her two career starts by a combined eleven-and-one-half lengths.

Racing as a homebred for Stonestreet Stables LLC, La Appassionata sat just off the early leaders for the first half-mile before taking command on the far turn and cruised to an easy victory.

La Appassionata is out of the Carson City mare Moonlight Sonata, winner of the G3 Arlington-Washington Lassie. The filly is a full sister to Wilburn, winner of the G2 Indiana Derby, and a half-sister to Beethoven, winner of the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes.

La Appassionata’s sire, Bernardini, continues to have an outstanding year. The son of A.P. Indy has sired four G1 winners this season, including G1 Champagne winner Greenpointcrusader, G1 Humana Distaff winner Dame Dorothy, and G1 Spinaway winner, Rachel’s Valentina, all three of which are being pointed to the Breeders’ Cup. In addition, Bernardini is the sire of Boban, a four-time G1 winner in Australia, as well as back-to-back G1 Travers winners Stay Thirsty and Alpha, and multiple G1 winner To Honor And Serve, whose full-sister, Angela Renee, won the G1 Chandelier Stakes.
