Island Town captures G3 Smarty Jones Stakes

Son of Hard Spun wins at Parx

Three-year-old Hard Spun gelding Island Town won the G3 Smarty Jones Stakes at Parx on August 29th for his second career Graded Stakes victory.  He previously won the G3 Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs in June.

In the one mile and seventy yards race, Island Town broke well and sat in a stalking second until making his move midway around the turn.  He took the lead from Souper Colossal at the top of the stretch and pulled away to win impressively by almost seven lengths.

Bred in Kentucky by Randy Bloch et al, Island Town is out of the Distorted Humor mare Humorous Gal, and is from the family of G1 Widener Handicap winner Launch A Pegasus.

Hard Spun has been represented this year by G1 winners Hard Not To Like, winner of the G1 Gamely at Santa Anita and the G1 Diana at Saratoga, and Hard Aces, winner of the G1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita.  Hard Spun is also the sire of G1 Arlington Million winner Hardest Core, G1 Wood Memorial winner Wicked Strong, and Eclipse Champion Questing.
