Hard Spun juvenile shows superior speed to win G3 on debut

Power Trip claims Maribyrnong Plate on Stakes Day at Flemington

Hard Spun two-year-old Power Trip appears to have a bright future after winning the G3 Maribyrnong Plate over 1000m on debut at Flemington on Stakes Day, November 7.

Power Trip was taken to the outside of the straight course by jockey Craig Williams with two rivals trailing, but the gelding left them in his wake 400m from home, showing superior speed to hold off the challengers who were racing on the inside rails section of the track.

Power Trip, bred by K Landale, is out of Royal Academy mare Rada, who has produced full-brother, five-time winner Beau Rada. Both horses are trained by John McArdle.

Rada has also produced an unraced three-year-old filly and a yearling colt by Hard Spun.

Power Trip is one of 45 Stakes winners for his sire Hard Spun, whose best progeny include G1 winners Smooth Roller, Hard Aces and Hard Not To Like.

Hard Spun will stand the 2015 season at Jonabell Farm at a fee of $45,000 with standard stands and nurses term.
