First winner for freshman sire Regal Ransom

New York-bred filly wins at first asking south of the border

It may be early in the two-year-old season but that didn't stop the precocious filly Humor Vice in becoming the first winner sired by freshman sire Regal Ransom at Hipodromo de las Americas in Mexico on March 20th.

The two and one-half furlong event saw Humor Vice take the lead right out of the gate and make every step a winning one while finding herself two and one-quarter lengths clear at the finish.

Bred in New York by Westerly Horse Farm and Tammy L. Jacobs, Humor Vice is out of the New York allowance-winning Affirmed mare Special Virtue, a half-sister to Stakes winner First Class Guy and to the dam of Stakes winner and multiple Graded-placed Montana Native.

A $675,000 sale two-year-old, Regal Ransom distinguished himself on two continents, winning the G2 Uae Derby in Dubai and then, in the U.S., handing champion Blame one of only four defeats in his 13-race career when wiring the field in the G2 Super Derby in 2009. Regal Ransom retired with career earnings of $1,894,835.

Regal Ransom, son of Distorted Humor, stands for a fee of $5,000, stands and nurses.
