Edison posts smart win in G3 Canadian Derby

Bernardini colt runs away an easy winner

When Bernardini colt Edison rounded the final turn in the G3 Canadian Derby, there was absolutely no doubt he'd take command for the win. The three-year-old colt became the newest Graded Stakes winner for his sire, when sent off as the favorite in the one-and-three-eighth-mile race.

Edison sat back in fifth position in the early stages of the race. Approaching the final turn the colt loomed large to take over the lead easily, and rolled in the stretch to clear away a winner.

Bred by Destiny Oaks of Ocala, Edison was a $950,000 two-year-old purchase. He is out of Heart Of Grace, a half-sister to G2 winner Broad Dynamite. The family traces to G1 winners Very Subtle and High Schemes.

Bernardini is the sire of 34 Graded Stakes winners, including nine G1 winners lifetime. Just last week his daughters Cavorting and Angela Renee finished one-two in the G2 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga. His winners at the highest level include multiple G1 winner To Honor and Serve, as well as two G1 Travers winners in Stay Thirsty and Alpha, who followed in their sire's footsteps.
