Courtesan captures Keertana Stakes

Street Sense filly earns win at Churchill Downs

Four-year-old Street Sense filly Courtesan posted a determined win May 16 in the Keertana Stakes at Churchill Downs. A winner of the Juvenile Filly Turf Stakes at Gulfstream as a three-year-old, the filly also placed in the G3 Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland previously in her career.

In the one-and-three-eighths-mile turf race Courtesan ran along in second tracking the lead. Around the far turn she began to pick up the pace, and into the stretch the filly put in a final bid to charge to the lead at the sixteenth-pole and earn the well-fought win.

Bred by Ocala Stud, Joseph M. O'Farrell and David John O'Farrell, et al., Courtesan is out of Lady Discreet, a half-sister to Darley's own Discreet Cat, G1 winner Discreetly Mine, Stakes winner and G1-placed Plenty Wild, and G3-placed Discreet Treasure. The filly is a half-sister to Listed Stakes winner Chary, and her second dam is G1 winner Pretty Discreet.

Among Street Sense's top runners in 2015 are Wedding Toast, a winner of the G2 Ruffian Stakes just one week prior, G1 Las Virgenes Stakes winner Callback and G1 Randwick Guineas winner Hallowed Crown. Other notable runners for the sire include two-time G1 winner Sweet Reason and G1 Humana Distaff victress Aubby K.

Street Sense stands for $35,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
