Back-to-back win for Big John B in G2 Del Mar Handicap

Hard Spun's second Graded Stakes winner on the day

Hard Spun sired his second Graded/Group winner on the day August 22 as Big John B posted his second consecutive win in the G2 Del Mar Handicap, after Moviesta showed a similar last-to-first score in the G3 Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh.

In the one-and-three-eighths-mile turf race Big John B was content to trail the field early on. Patiently ridden throughout, the son of Hard Spun picked up the pace around the final turn, and made his move around the outside before charging to victory in the stretch for the back-to-back win.

Big John B, a winner of the G3 Cougar II Handicap in July, is out of Stakes winner and multiple Graded-placed mare Baldomera, a half-sister to G3 winner Circle Unbroken. He was bred by Brylynn Farm, Inc.

Other Graded Stakes winners for Hard Spun this year, in addition to the aforementioned Moviesta, are G1 Gold Cup winner Hard Aces and G1 Diana Handicap and G1 Gamely Stakes victress Hard Not To Like. The sire has also been represented by Eclipse Champion Questing, G1 winner Hard Not To Like, and G1 Arlington Million winner Hardest Core.
